Equality in Travel

On the same week the US Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage, the UK travel industry seems to question the lack of equality in travel. It is urging operators and hotels to improve how they provide for the markets such as gay, black and disabled customers.

Is the travel industry representative of the British population? Does it really represent the diverse society in which we live? This is a hard question to answer as imagery used in the industry is principally white middle class- The industry as a whole has a long way to go.

Should the travel industry be fragmented and target specific? – The travel industry is huge. Once fragmented would it be properly regulated? If it becomes target specific, who decide on the targets?

I believe it should be representative and not be stereotypic- society is individual not a group’s pigmentation or private activities- However each one should find its own joy in the freedom to travel.

Travel industry is my passion, travel is my business. Travel is a thing of beauty and should be available to all.
